The David Turpin and Suromitra Sanatani Award for Refugees and Displaced Persons provides financial assistance to students fleeing civil war, persecution or other life-threatening situations.

Ten scholarships will be available per year. Five of them will be awarded on an educational basis and five of them will be awarded on a community-engagement basis.

Sanctuary Scholars program

Student
Undergraduate Students who hold precarious immigration status, including refugee claims, refused refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate ground (H&C) applications, pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) applications, people on temporary resident permits (TRPs), as well as those who have no immigration status.

The Sanctuary Scholars program provides an access pathway specifically for students who hold precarious immigration status. Sanctuary Scholar students can study in undergraduate programs in all departments and programs at TMU.

As a response to the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, Ontario College of Management and Technology (OCMT) and MPower have partnered to award scholarships a sum of $3,000 to Afghanistan refugees in Canada.
